The identity for Materia sake is inspired by the Japanese art movement Gutai which aimed to go beyond abstraction and pursue the possibilities of pure creativity by merging human qualities and material properties to interpret abstract space. This led to a focus on ink and paper, as the true materials of a bottle label with the idea to push this combination into an unfamiliar visual territory. The result was abstracted macro images of ink dots reacting with fibrous uncoated paper. The brand marque is a stylised version of an ink experiment to form the letter M.
